Submit material

Over the years many people have helped with material for books. If you have appreciated this site and have any material, especially photos relating to post-war wars, here is your opportunity to help me and get your name in print.

How you can help

One of the biggest problems authors have is securing photographs.

Usage of photographs lodged with museums or collections – regardless of copyright – is exorbitantly expensive and it is not generally realised that authors have to pay for all illustrations. For a book with 250 photos, this could easily amount to £7,500 and for a typical aviation book the most an author will ever get back in royalties is around £2-3,000.

A further problem is that there is a shortage of new material and the value of a book will often rest in fresh illustrations to balance the text.

I have two books in preparation, for both of which I would really appreciate new material. Either send me hard copies in the post and I will scan and return immediately, or send me scans to the above e-mail address.

The first is on British post-war air operations from 1945 to 1995, ranging from big campaigns like Malaya, the Berlin Airlift, Falklands and the Gulf War to minor conflicts around the globe and humanitarian aid.

The second book will be on the RAF in Iraq from 1918 to 1939.

Please look into your albums, and think how you might help, perhaps by asking around for me. I cannot offer to pay other than reproduction costs for suitable material, but you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped to get new material to the public and I will of course give full written credit. And if you were one of the people who sent me scans of aircraft in Palestine and Malaya do please contact me since I recently lost my e-mail address book and old e-mails! There are photos from both sets I would like to use and credit.

Thanks in anticipation.
